Toriut
Toriut is $199/month, flat, and that already includes direct Shopify integration, unlimited connected stores, and most importantly – a two-way sync with Shopify, while Akeneo Shopify App publishes out but doesn't read changes back.
If you're a Shopify brand evaluating Akeneo, the real question is whether you need Akeneo's 500+ retailer syndication, or a controlled product, media, and channel workflow built specifically around Shopify.

Main differences
01
Akeneo's Community Edition is free and open-source, but the official Shopify App is not supported on Community Edition. It requires a paid Product Cloud tier (Growth, Advanced, or Premium), and Growth currently starts around $45,000/year. Toriut is $199/month, which already includes direct two-way Shopify integration, unlimited connected Shopify stores, PIM + DAM, CSV import/export and bulk operations, plus external sharing via Portals.
02
Akeneo's official Shopify App syncs in one direction: Akeneo pushes data out to Shopify. It doesn't read changes back, and Akeneo's own documentation warns that deleting a product in Shopify won't remove it from Akeneo, and the next sync can recreate it in Shopify. Toriut syncs both ways: it pulls Shopify's real Published/Live state back into the PIM, so a direct edit in Shopify shows up as the actual Live state instead of getting silently reverted or duplicated.
03
Akeneo already does channel-specific mapping and store-specific content well. Toriut adds a layer on top: a persistent, per-product Draft for each connected store, which you can compare directly against Shopify's actual Live state before publishing. Akeneo's model moves data from catalog through configuration to Shopify; it doesn't keep a comparable Draft-vs-Live view per channel version.
04
Akeneo's DAM is capable. It includes asset families, metadata, automated linking rules, renditions, format conversion, versioning and more. Toriut's is built on Pics.io, a dedicated DAM product, so search runs both directions: you can find assets from product attributes, or find products from asset metadata.

Depending on your scale: Toriut and Apimio are Shopify-native options built for smaller, single-platform catalogs; while Salsify and inRiver compete more directly with Akeneo at enterprise scale.
Akeneo's Growth SaaS tier, which is required for its official Shopify App, starts around $45,000/year. Advanced and Premium tiers are custom-quoted and scale with catalog size, channels, and support level. A free, open-source Community Edition also exists, but it doesn't support Akeneo's official Shopify integration.
At the enterprise level: Salsify, inRiver, and Syndigo. At the mid-market Shopify level, where Akeneo is arguably oversized: Toriut, Apimio, and Plytix.
Reviewers consistently praise Akeneo's flexibility, integrations, and data consistency at scale. The most common complaints are cost (especially once past the free Community Edition), add-on creep on paid tiers, and setup complexity for smaller teams without dedicated technical resources.
Yes, through Akeneo's official Shopify App, but it’s only available on a paid Product Cloud tier (Growth, Advanced, or Premium) and is not supported on the free Community Edition. Toriut connects to Shopify natively at every plan, with two-way sync and unlimited stores included.
For Shopify brands, yes. Toriut covers multi-store catalog management, two-way Shopify sync, and a DAM built in, which is a Shopify-native operational model. For large brands selling on multiple platforms beyond Shopify, Akeneo’s 500+ retailer syndication might be a better fit.
Yes, Toriut's native integration is Shopify, with multi-store catalog management and a built-in DAM designed around that use case specifically.
